Emergency help needed – heart surgery for Sandra

Update 2 October 2025: A heart for Sandra – we need your support once again! Please help Sandra with a donation!
Sandra has been discharged from hospital. She has come well through her two operations, during which three heart valves were replaced and a pacemaker was fitted, and is now continuing to recover. She is still very weak, can only walk a few steps and still needs a lot of care.
We received the hospital bill today – and our donations are almost completely used up. However, we urgently need more money for the follow-up examinations, for Sandra’s stay in Bomet for these examinations, for the return journey and for aftercare and support.
Please help us with a donation or sponsor Sandra so that we can cover her long-term medical care. The family is so poor that help is urgently needed.
We cannot leave Sandra alone now – but together we can do it! Thank you!

Update 25 September 2025: Sandra needs your help again! She needs a pacemaker.
Unfortunately, Sandra’s heart was so damaged by her long illness that it is no longer beating properly on its own after heart valve surgery, in which two valves were replaced and one was reconstructed. She urgently needs a pacemaker, which is to be implanted in a second operation.
The operation costs €3,750. We can still use about €1,000 from the last collection for this, but we need at least another €2,750 to provide Sandra with good care and also have enough funds for follow-up care, which will be complex, lengthy and therefore expensive.
Please help Sandra with a donation – because if we don’t help now, Sandra will not survive.
Update 21st September 2025: Sandra underwent successful surgery at Tenwek Hospital in Bomet, where several heart valves were replaced. After a few days, she was transferred from the intensive care unit to the regular ward, where she is now recovering. She is making good progress, and the doctors are very satisfied. Sandra will remain in Bomet for some time, first as an inpatient and then as an outpatient. She must be well prepared for her return journey, undergo several check-ups, and be put on medication.
Thank you to all the donors who made Sandra’s surgery and her current medical care possible!
We are now looking for school sponsors for Sandra who would like to support her when she returns to school. If you are interested, please contact us.
Update 9th September 2025: Sandra underwent extensive examinations at Tenwek Hospital in Bomet, and the situation is even more serious than the cardiologist in Mombasa had estimated. Three of her four heart valves are defective; one may be repaired, but the other two must be replaced with artificial heart valves.
Sandra was admitted to the clinic this evening, and the operation will take place in the next few days.
We have been able to collect enough donations for the time being and have therefore deactivated the fundraising campaign. Should we need further support, we will announce it.
A big thank you to everyone who has supported Sandra so far with donations, campaigns and good wishes. Let’s all keep our fingers crossed for her! She has a difficult road ahead of her, but she is in the best hands.
Update September 2025: Sandra and her family are on their way to Tenwek Hospital in Bomet with our team. There, Sandra will be examined again and a decision will be made as to whether and when she can undergo surgery. We urgently need further donations – for the operation, the journey and stay in Bomet, and follow-up care. Please help us with a donation!
Sandra has severe damage to both heart valves, the symptoms are already dramatic and dangerous, and without surgery, the situation is acutely life-threatening for Sandra. Any kind of strain must be avoided.
She has been ill since 2018, and her family has already tried to raise money for an operation – but they only managed to collect 600 Euros. Without help, Sandra will die – it’s as simple as that. The operation at a hospital in Kenya that specialises in heart surgery for children and young people will give Sandra the chance of a healthy life and a future.
Sandra wants to live; she has so many plans.
Please help us with a generous donation! The sooner we raise the amount, the sooner we can help Sandra.
Update August 2025 – we now have clarity – Sandra urgently needs heart surgery. We need 12.000 Euro to make this surgery possible.
We need your help! This is Sandra, 14 years old and seriously ill with heart disease. She will need further treatment, we need medication, we have to pay for further examinations and the trips there. Please support us with a donation!
Her whole story is almost unbearable to hear. She comes from an extremely poor family. Out of desperation, her mother went to Saudi Arabia to work some time ago, but can hardly send any money home. Her father died in an accident a few weeks ago. Sandra and her four younger siblings then moved in with their grandmother. We had heard from her father that Sandra had heart problems, but that there was no money for tests. Her symptoms are severe: cardiac arrhythmia, fainting, weakness.
The tests we had done at a very good hospital cost 300 euros – unaffordable for the family. But they gave us an accurate picture – and unfortunately, it is much more dramatic than we had hoped. We are currently working with medical professionals to determine how to proceed. But one thing we already know – we will need money. Medication, preliminary examinations, travel and accommodation for relatives, possibly surgery. We very much hope that we can help Sandra quickly. Before it is too late for her. Please help us!
